In 2011 I defeated a 36-year incumbent to win election as a Philadelphia City Commissioner [of Elections]. I served from 2012-2016, helped defeat a particularly mean Voter ID law, saw a corrupt system from the inside and brought "I Voted Today" stickers to all of Philadelphia.
I've written two books on applications of sophisticated mathematics to physicists. Physicists like my books because they explain the mathematics in terms they understand; mathematicians like my books because they show the underlying connections between mathematics and physics. In 2017 the Chronicle of Higher Education published my essay about my experience with sexual harassment in academia #MeToo. In the early 2000's I published a few articles about applications of music theory to performance practice in Philadelphia Music Makers Magazine.
